One of the most memorable stunts in the history of film. One man vs many, using every bit of his Yankee ingenuity to escape to freedom. So close. McQueen's mechanic was the stunt double for the jump. When asked if McQueen could have done the jump his friend said yes. The studio just didn't want to risk an injury to Steve.
